6 Powerful Women and the Degrees They Earned

 

There’s no secret that there are more men in executive positions at major corporations than there are women, which also reflects the climb up to those positions. There are several major corporations, however, that do have women in the role of chief executive officer, and those companies are reaping the benefits of their CEOs’ strong educational and business backgrounds.

Take a look at the following list to learn more about powerful women in high-ranking positions and the educations that got them there:

Ginni Rometty: Chairman, CEO, and President of IBM

She is the current Chairwoman, Chief Executive Officer, and President of IBM and happens to be the first woman to head the multinational technology and consulting giant. Prior to becoming the corporation’s first female CEO, she held the position of Senior Vice President for Sales, Marketing, and Strategy at IBM.

Ginni Remetty is a graduate of the Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern University where she received a bachelor’s degree in computer science and electrical engineering.

Ellen Kullman: Chairman and CEO of DuPont

Ellen J. Kullman is the current Chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, also known simply as DuPont, which is an American chemical company. Prior to heading up DuPont, Kullman was a high-ranking director within General Motors.

Kullman graduated from Tufts University in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, then went on to receive her master’s in management from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Marissa Mayer: CEO and President of Yahoo!

Marissa Ann Mayer is the current CEO and President of Yahoo! Inc, a multinational internet corporation. She first took the position as head of the company in July 2012. She was previously a long-time key spokesperson and executive for Google with whom she had worked since 1999.

Mayer graduated with a bachelor’s degree in symbolic systems from Stanford University and went on to receive a Master’s in computer science from the same university.

Irene Rosenfeld: Chairman and CEO of Mondelez International

Irene B. Rosenfeld is the current Chief Executive Officer and Chairwoman of the American multinational food and beverage conglomerate Mondelez International. Prior to serving as the CEO and Chairman of Mondelez International, she was the Chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer of Frito-Lay.

Rosenfeld graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and later with a Ph.D in Marketing and Statistics.
